A Weekend by the Sea

ESL Too and Enough Activity - Grammar and Speaking: Information Gap, Asking and Answering Questions from Prompts, Gap-fill, Writing Sentences - Pair Work - Pre-intermediate (A2) - 25 minutes

This productive too and enough speaking activity helps students to practice too, too much, too many and enough. In the activity, students complete a hotel review with words provided by a partner. In pairs, students take it in turns to ask about the missing problems in their table, e.g. 'What was the problem with the location?' Their partner then reads out the corresponding gap-fill sentence using the word 'blank' for the missing words, e.g. 'The hotel was BLANK from the beach'. The student listens and completes the sentence with too, too much, too many or enough, and a word from the box on their worksheet, e.g. too far. If their partner agrees that the words are suitable, they add them to the sentence and the student writes the sentence in their table. This process continues until both students have completed all the problems.

ESL Too and Enough Board Game - Grammar and Speaking: Forming Sentences from Prompts - Group Work - Intermediate (B1) - 25 minutes

Here is a fun too and enough board game to help students practice using too and enough in negative sentences. Players take it in turns to roll the dice and move their counter along the board. If a player rolls an even number, they accept the invitation or request written on the square they land on. If a player rolls an odd number, they reject the invitation or request. To accept or reject the invitation or request, the player makes a sentence with too or enough along with a word from the word bank. If the sentence is correct, they stay on the square. If the sentence is incorrect, or they repeat another player's answer, they move back two squares. The first player to reach the finish wins the game.

As the students talk, they change the number and amount of each item in the chart. Finally, review the students' answers as a class.
